Job Summary

The Medical Buyer is responsible for purchasing medical supplies like Disposable & Consumable, Laboratory Items, Instruments, Medical Spare Parts, Pharmacy Drugs & IV Solutions and Equipment’s, in the required quantity and quality at the most advantageous price, with compliance of Purchasing Policies Manual / Delegation of Authority Matrix (NMC Corporate Office).

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews requisitions to ensure compliance of purchasing policies.
  • Reviews all purchase orders for accuracy in content, as well as Arabic translation.
  • Surveys market prices and availability from various sources to obtain information of items for purchase.
  • Compares prices, specifications, shelf life and delivery dates and assist in the preparation of purchase orders as required. Selects samples from vendors and present to end-users in order to correctly select the materials.
  • Negotiates with vendors for competitive prices and terms.
  • Consults with the Department Head if it becomes necessary to purchase a substitute item.
  • Drafts all necessary documents (English & Arabic) related to purchasing.
  • Communicates with vendors when necessary to assure prompt delivery and accuracy of orders.
  • Researches and answers questions for all departments regarding purchase orders.
  • Maintaining useful and up-to-date vendor list (prepared vendor).
  • Meets current objectives and positions the organization for future growth. Completes daily tasks and assignments and processes large volumes of work associated with the operation of the department.
  • Builds positive relationships based on respect for others. Demonstrates a helpful positive attitude. Maintains effective communication with peers, staff and visitors.
  • Meets and exceeds expectations of internal and external customers. All organizational and departmental standards regarding quality of performance are met. Demonstrates a strong commitment to confidentiality. Participates in quality improvement programs as directed.
  • Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee’s knowledge, skills and abilities.

Qualifications:

A minimum of:

Education:

  • Diploma in General Management, Desirable B.A or Diploma in Material Management.

Experience:

  • Two (2) years’ experience in procurement of Medical supplies.

Competencies & skills:

  • Knowledge of vendor and product relationships.
  • Knowledge of office and administrative practices related to purchasing
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other employees, and vendors.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Competent working knowledge in computer systems.
  • Fluency in English so to be able to read manual/catalogue in both Arabic and English Languages.
  • Able to translate between English and Arabic.
