Job Description

Oversees the effective use of manpower and resources in order to deliver and maintains the highest standards of nursing care and patient safety. Responds to administrative problems and if necessary refers to appropriate Administrator on call.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in departmental goal setting and implementing/evaluating creative approaches to meeting goals.
  • Promotes cooperation, coordination and respect among individuals and departments to provide high-quality patient care and customer service (internal and external).
  • Responds promptly and positively to patients, families, co-workers and all others in a respectful, courteous and confidential manner.
  • Creates and supports an environment which fosters teamwork, cooperation, respect and diversity.
  • Ensures a safe working environment through compliance with hospital policy and procedure regarding safety infection control and security.
  • Supports and enforces organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participates in formulating, revising and reviewing policies and procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility as Hospital Administrator when required.
  • Coordinates and facilitates American Hospital Dubai’s transfers (i.e. internal transfers, transfers in, transfers out and international transfers).
  • Coordinates all relevant documentation in the event of a patient’s death. Liaises with family members to fulfil UAE-stated requirements.
  • Coordinates nursing manpower plans according to patient census and acuity.
  • Participates in hospital-wide and nursing committees.
  • Identifies emergencies including codes (code red) and manages according to hospital policies and procedures. 
  • Acts as resource person in the absence of the Manager.
  • Records code blue and green and report in quality measures (QM).
  • Handles technical Staff functions.

Clinical:

  • Coordinates the provision of safe efficient, and economical nursing care in line with established standards of practice.
  • Supports direct care to patients and families.
  • Serves as a clinical resource.
  • Collaborates with patients, families and healthcare professionals to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Makes rounds in all patient care areas; is abreast of clinical issues, staffing patterns and customer service needs in all areas.
  • Responds to all emergency codes.
  • Acts as the Bed Coordinator when necessary 
  • Maintains clinical and professional competency based on the latest research and established standards of practice.
  • Completes all Core Competencies for nursing.
  • Understands Infection Control, Pain Management and Wound Care practices and standards.
  • Understands the responsibilities of safe handling, and administration of Narcotic/Controlled Drugs and documentation as directed by policies and procedures.
  • Encourages team decisions, and cooperation within and across departments and assists in resolving differences of opinion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (minimum of three (3) years full-time course duration) or
  • Degree in Nursing (minimum two (2) years course duration) and Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia
  • For UAE nationals graduates of UAE or non-UAE universities are exempted from the experience and clinical training requirements for the applied title. (UAE nationals must submit a copy of their birth certificate and the mother’s family book)
  • Non-UAE national graduates from UAE universities are required to successfully complete six (6) months of clinical training post-graduation in an APS health facility (except for Registered and assistant Nurse titles)
  • Must hold a valid License/Registration to practice in their home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable)
  • Must hold a minimum of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or others according to the scope of practice

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent post-graduate experience in Inpatient Nursing which includes two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role
  • Knowledge of and ability to render care and services based on age, appropriateness and developmental needs of patients
  • Knowledge of Facility Management and Safety Planning
  • Skills in assessment of patient and family’s physical and psychological needs
  • Skills in coordination and planning of care and prioritising care based on individual needs
  • Skills in problem-solving, leadership and management
