Job Description
Support and guide all the Medical Department HODs, Medical Administrative staff and clinicians to ensure the smooth functioning and best outcomes of the all processes and operations from all aspects like quality, patient safety, patient satisfaction and desired medical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities
- Medical Administration
- Assist in privilege and credentialing of all physicians and surgeons based on their qualification and experience to foresee and avoid any medical mishap and complication. Department head will supervise and report to the management about the clinical skills of the newly arrived Doctor before finalizing initial privileges.
- Work for developing a professional culture that is congruent with hospital vision, values and higher clinical standards.
- Continuously work for consistently high clinical outcomes and a positive patient experience through effective audit, review of mortality/morbidity rates, implementation of best practice and influencing clinicians to recognize patient’s perceptions and feedback.
- Collaborate with other HODs and senior managers to develop multi-professional working for improving the system continuously.
- Work with the clinicians for developing new protocols and guidelines based on evidence based practice for uniformity in standards and clinical practices.
- Ensure that medical records are maintained and updated continuously and effectively by all Doctors.
- Sort out and settle patient complaints with in the specified time and participate in all investigation committees and recommend his opinion to the higher management.
- Medical Leadership
- Make recommendations to the Medical Director and Vice President- Physician Affairs on all matters relating to the performance of doctors and adherence to professional medical standards.
- Ensure an effective appraisal process is in place for all medical staff informed by data relating to performance such as clinical audit and complaints information.
- Ensure the maintenance of professional standards/ indicators by doctors are comparable with international standards/indicators.
- In conjunction with the Coordinator/HR Manager, ensure conduct and performance concerns of doctors are addressed and proportionate action is taken from re-training through to dismissal.
- Clinical Outcomes
- Ensure there are effective systems for clinical audit in place within coordinators. To ensure audit results are regularly reviewed against appropriate benchmarks, internal reporting is completed and action taken to achieve upper quartile performance.
- Ensure any avoidable deaths/morbidities’ are identified, remedial actions taken by the Head of Department and any issues relating to individual clinical practice resolved.
- Lead on implementation of Joint Commission Accreditation Standards (JCI)/National Standards (CBAHI) for delivery of healthcare services.
- In collaboration with the Director of Nursing and Governance, embed the governance agenda with doctors, specifically concerning infection control.
- To lead on ensuring arrangements for the deceased and bereaved are appropriate.
- To ensure arrangements for blood transfusion and tissue transplantation are in accordance with national standards.
- Modernization of Medical Workforce:
- Identify opportunities for new ways of working based on evidence based practices for continuous improvement.
- Work on the existing processes and development of new ones for smooth functioning of the department.
- Collaboration with other Healthcare Providers:
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of productive working relationships between Insurance companies/MOH hospital, insuring effective dialogue about care for patients and robust clinical systems.
- Other Responsibilities:
- To carry out any other duties in accordance with the nature of this post as delegated by the Medical Director, Vice President-Physician Affairs. It should be noted that the content of this outline job description will be reviewed on a regular basis with the VP-PA in line with performance objectives.
- Participate in person-centered care initiatives undertaken by HMG.
- Enrich patient experience with compassion, respect and dignity.
Requirements
Education/ Professional Qualification
- Medical Graduate of an Accredited Medical School, with completion of appropriate Internship and Residency requirements preferred. A higher degree in Management e.g.
- MBA, MHA will be preferred.
- Relevant certifications, CPMSM Preferred.
Experience
- At least five (5) years of experience of administration/management after obtaining the higher degree in a Tertiary Care JCI/ISO certified Hospital.
- Experience of five (5) years or more is preferred.
