Qualifications and Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Anesthesia Technology or a related field from an accredited

institution.

2. Valid license from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) with classification

as Specialist – Anesthesia or higher.

3. Proficiency in patient monitoring and anesthesia-related equipment.

4. Strong clinical decision-making and emergency response skills.

5. High attention to patient safety and infection control protocols.

6. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

7. Fluent in English.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Anesthesia specialist is responsible for assisting anesthesia providers in delivering high-quality anesthesia care. This role includes preparing and maintaining anesthesia equipment,

supporting anesthesia procedures, and ensuring the availability of necessary supplies and

medications. The Anesthesia specialist will also assist in patient monitoring, provide technical

support during surgical procedures, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory

standards.

1. Anesthesia Equipment Preparation and Maintenance:

• Prepare, set up, and ensure the proper functioning of anesthesia machines,

monitors, ventilators, and other related equipment before surgical procedures.

• Perform regular maintenance and troubleshooting of anesthesia equipment,

ensuring cleanliness, sterilization, and readiness for use.

• Assist in the preparation and management of intravenous (IV) lines, syringes, and

anesthesia-related instruments.

2. Operating Room Support:

• Assist the anesthesia provider with patient positioning and preparation for surgery,

ensuring patient safety and comfort.

• Set up the anesthesia workspace with necessary supplies, medications, and

equipment for anesthesia administration.

• Respond promptly to requests for additional equipment, supplies, or assistance

during the procedure.

3. Patient Monitoring and Care:

• Assist in the monitoring of patient vital signs during surgical procedures as directed

by the anesthesia provider.

• Support the anesthesia provider in maintaining a sterile field and ensuring

adherence to safety and infection control protocols.

4. Medication Management and Safety:

• Ensure all medications are stored, handled, and disposed of safely in accordance

with hospital policies and regulatory guidelines.

5. Documentation and Record-Keeping:

• Maintain accurate records of anesthesia equipment checks, medication usage,

and other anesthesia-related activities.

• Document any incidents, equipment malfunctions, or safety concerns and report

them to the Anesthesia Registrar or department head.

6. Infection Control and Safety Compliance:

• Adhere to infection control policies, including the sterilization and disinfection of

equipment and instruments.

• Comply with safety protocols related to the handling and disposal of sharps,

medications, and other hazardous materials.

7. Collaboration and Communication:

• Communicate effectively with anesthesia providers, surgical staff, and other

healthcare professionals to ensure smooth operation and coordination during

procedures.

• Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to discussions on equipment

management and process improvement.

8. Continuing Education and Professional Development:

• Engage in ongoing education and training to maintain up-to-date knowledge and

skills in anesthesia technology and patient care.

• Participate in professional development activities, including workshops, seminars,

and in-service training sessions.

9. Additional Duties:

• Perform any other tasks as assigned by the Anesthesia Registrar or Head of

Anesthesia Department to support the overall objectives of the department and

the hospital.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

1. Technical Proficiency:

• Strong knowledge of anesthesia equipment, including anesthesia machines,

ventilators, monitors, and related devices.

• Understanding of basic pharmacology related to anesthetic agents and

safe medication handling practices.

• Ability to perform equipment troubleshooting, maintenance, and minor

repairs.

2. Attention to Detail:

• High level of attention to detail to ensure accurate preparation and

administration of anesthesia supplies and equipment.

• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and maintain a safe

and sterile environment.

3. Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

• Effective communication skills to interact with the anesthesia team, patients,

and other healthcare staff.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and follow directions

from anesthesia providers.

4. Problem-Solving and Adaptability:

• Ability to quickly adapt to changing situations in the operating room and

respond to emergency scenarios.

• Strong problem-solving skills to identify and address equipment or supply

issues promptly.

5. Commitment to Learning and Development:

• Willingness to participate in ongoing training and education to keep

abreast of advancements in anesthesia specialist and patient care.

Experience:

1. Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Anesthesia specialist in a hospital or

surgical setting.

2. Experience in assisting with a wide range of surgical procedures, including

general, and plastic surgery, is preferred.
