Description

Job Description

  1. Preparing patients and assists during induction, maintenance of and recovery from anesthesia. 
  2. Performs duties under the direct supervision of Anesthesiologist. 
  3. Ensuring properly functioning suctioning equipment is on hand.
  4. Setting up endotracheal tubes (ET) and Arranging transtracheal jet ventilation devices. 
  5. Provides support for routine surgical cases by assisting in the preparation and maintenance of patient equipment and anesthesia delivery systems before, during and after anesthesia 
  6. Stocking self-inflating resuscitation bags, breathing circuits and masks. 
  7. Performs first level maintenance on anesthesia equipment. 
  8. Cleans, sterilizes, disinfects, stocks, orders and maintains the routine anesthesia equipment and supplies 
  9. Checks anesthesia machine on a daily basis, prior to surgery, to ensure the gas scavenging system and the suction apparatus are attached and functioning at optimal level. 
  10. Double-checking instrument calibrations 
  11. Cleans equipment and stores supplies related to anesthesia. 
  12. Ensuring the adequate stock of laryngoscope blades 
  13. Ensuring gas cylinders are full, functional and on hand 
  14. Works with a wide variety of equipment specific to administration of anesthesia, patient monitoring and related life support systems. 
  15. Understands the sequence of procedures required for rapid induction and intubation used in emergency cases to prevent vomiting and aspiration. 
  16. Performs Sellick’s Maneuver (Cricoid pressure) as required. 
  17. Positions patients for surgery who require spinal or epidural anesthesia with the awareness of sterile techniques. 
  18. Familiar with equipment, supplies and pharmacological agents and is familiar with locations of same. 
  19. Assists anesthetists with starting I.V. infusion. 
  20. Maintains awareness of safety hazards and takes necessary action to prevent accidents. 
  21. Post-surgery check for sodalime depletion in the CO2 absorbers. 
  22. Disassemble (and reassemble before surgery) absorbers for cleaning and sterilization; 
  23. Handle and store all volatile gas cylinders and related supplies; 
  24. Dispose of spent CO2 absorbent; 
  25. Recalibrate instrumentation.

Qualifications

Diploma / College Degree in Anesthetic Techniques.

Minimum 2 years of experience after qualification and registration/license to practice.
Current Basic life support (BLS)

Demonstrates proficiency in biologic hazards, infection control, standard precautions, fire, electrical, laser and explosion hazards in the operating room and other anesthesia related areas.
