Job Description

  • Provides domain knowledge input during the pre-purchase stage of all biomedical equipment.
  • Performs inspection, inventory procedures and machine marking for incoming new equipment, prior to use. 
  • Provides technical assistance, training and instruction to staff in the maintenance and operation of equipment.
  • Carries out regular rounds and proper, systematic preventive maintenance of all biomedical equipments and ensures that the problems are rectified immediately.
  • Maintains a regularly updated inventory of all biomedical equipment in the hospital.
  • Analyzes equipment for failure, faults or malfunctions based on application of test instruments and reference to technical literature and schematics. 
  • Interprets engineering and vendor information, schematic diagrams and graphic illustrations utilizing clinical, physiologic and electronic principles. 
  • Provides engineering and technical advice to ensure compliance with electrical and other safety standards and prepare reports as required. 
  • Coordinates and evaluates the work performed by service contractors to include maintenance, calibration, installation and verification of service documentation.
  • Prepares and enters data in logs, reports, databases, forms and equipment records concerning inspections, repairs and equipment condition and operation. 
  • Conducts and assesses safety and risk assessment together with the FMS teams and develops measures to counter them.
  • Prepares requisitions for spare parts procurement from stores/manufacturer.
  • Liaisons with other departments and higher management.
  • Vendor management and development with particular reference to vendors who can repair PCB’s major assemblies that companies ask to replace at high costs.
  • As a member of the FMS committee, actively contributes to develop manuals, policies and procedures relevant to the biomedical department.
  • Collects monitoring data for the medical equipment management program.
  • Develops and coordinates departmental quality initiatives.
  • Adheres to the safety norms of the hospital and follow both patient safety and staff safety rules.
  • Updates biomedical knowledge by attending seminars and workshops regarding new equipments.
  • Performs other related duties as and when assigned by the Medical Administrator.

     OSH ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERAL

  • Responsible to be familiarize, comply and implement the OSHAD-SF& NMCSH Al Ain Internal OSHMS policies and procedures/SOP’s relevant to their department.
  • Staff should notify/report all OSHMS hazards, incidents, accidents and near misses within the premises of NMCSH Al Ain to their supervisor or department OSH Facilitator as per the incident reporting protocol of NMCSH Al Ain.
  • Staff are responsible to assist with the preparation of departmental risk assessment activities and implement the control measure within the timeframe.
  • Staff are responsible to attend applicable department OSHMS training.
  • Staff are not allowed to tamper or misuse any NMCSH Al Ain equipment’s and its property.
  • Comply with all OSH instructions, safe working procedures and signages within the premises of NMCSH-Al Ain.
  • Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedure.
  • Not willfully or recklessly endanger anyone’s health and safety;
  • Make proper use of all machinery, tools, substances, etc., safety systems and of all Personal Protective Equipment provided for use at work.
  • Participate in required OSH inspection, audit and OSH monitoring programs.

SPECIFIC

BIOMEDICAL ENGINEER ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain the hand tools, portable machines and equipment in good working order at all times.
    • Ensure to use and maintain the soldering equipment’s as per the manufacturer.
    • Comply with OSHAD SF Cop 49.0 Compressed Gases and Air. 
    • Comply & carry out work as per the related SOP of OSHAD-SF/OSHMS NMCSH, programs and targets.

BCP ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

                Responsibilities of staff (including all contractors) are:

  • Achieving an adequate level of general awareness regarding business continuity Being aware of the contents of their service areas disaster recovery plan and any specific role or responsibilities allocated.
    • Participating actively in the business continuity programme when required
      • Ensuring information governance standards continue to be applied to data and information during an incident

Qualifications

  • Qualification: B.E. (Biomedical) or Masters of Applied Science in Bio-Medical Instrumentation or Equivalent Degree / Fellowship.
  • Experience: Two years experience in maintenance involving applications preferably in Medical Electronics.
  • Language: Good knowledge of English to read and understand technical literature and schematics.
  • Computer Skills: Well versed with computer skills like Word & Excel.
