Job Summary:
Cardiovascular technologists must be able to perform Electrocardiogram (ECG), 2DEcho, Holter monitoring attachment and editing, exercise stress test and Ambulatory Blood pressure monitoring.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. A Cardiovascular technologist must be able to know how to properly place Electrocardiogram (ECG) on adult and pediatric patients and must be able to do a full 2D Echo study views and measurements in Adult patients. He/ she must also be able to assist pediatric Echo procedures.
2. Cardiovascular technologists also perform stress tests. This involves hooking up a patient to an ECG monitor for baseline reading and then monitoring the patient’s heart while he or she exercises on a treadmill. During the monitoring period, the treadmill speeds up and slows down to produce ECG readings at multiple levels of physical exertion.
3. Cardiovascular technologists can administer Holter monitoring tests. With this procedure, the Cardiovascular technologist attaches an ECG monitor to a patient, then allows the patient to go about his or her normal routine for a 24-hour period. Next, he/ she removes the monitor and takes it to a scanner, from which he or she can print out the data recorded by the machine.
4. Cardiovascular technologists must always properly prepare, assess and provide patient care for Stress test patients before, during and after the procedure.
5. Job duties may include providing patients with exercise regimens prescribed by doctors. You might also be responsible for obtaining a patient’s medical history, recording blood pressure, and explaining a procedure. You must be prepared to respond to cardiac emergencies as well.
6. Cardiovascular technologists must also be able to know how to put an ambulatory blood pressure monitor and properly explain to the patient as well as transferring the data.
7. Cardiovascular technologists must be knowledgeable in Normal and abnormal heart rhythm. Any urgent abnormal Heart rhythm must be reported to the attending Cardiologists or physician of the patient.
8. Cardiovascular technologists must know how to screen artifacts in Holter monitoring and know how to capture the minimum, maximum heart rate and record abnormal rhythms of the patient.
9. Maintain competence and excellence in ECG, Holter, Ambulatory blood pressure monitor and Exercise Stress test based on the evidence-based practice guided by American Heart for Association.
10. Participate in task forces assigned and complete work-related assignments on time regarding Cardiology department like census, typing and scanning of reports.
11. Flexibility to work different shifts in different areas according to the work needs within the scope of Cardiology department in My Clinic.
12. Maintain all time maximum safe environment for patient, family and staff by ensuring safe equipment and instruments and implement the infection control procedures & guidelines.
13. Maintain confidentiality of information from unauthorized people.
14. Receive and gives pertinent information to the concerned clinical team on the patient’s condition through shift report (verbal & written according the standards of My Clinic on the assigned patients to assure continuity of care).
15. Perform other professional duties requested from line manager.
