Job Description

Orthodontics and Dento-facial orthopedics is the specialty of dentistry concerned with the diagnosis, supervision, guidance and treatment of the growing and mature dento-facial structures , including those conditions that require movement of teeth and the treatment of malrelationships and malformations of the cranio-facial complex.It includes the correction of relationships between and among teeth and facial bones, the application of forces, including orthopedic and functional forces, and the diagnosis and treatment in conjunction with orthognathic surgery to attain and maintain optimal physiological health and esthetic harmony of the patient.

Registrar is responsible for providing the care of his/her patients maintaining a high-level of professional performance in accordance with:

  1. Professional medical ethics and CBAHI / JCIA standards.
  2. Hospital medical by-laws.
  3. Laws of Ministry of Health in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and any other

applicable regulations according to the departmental quality plan.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Ensures through his actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient served at the NMC Hospitals and Clinics.
  2. Works as part of the Orthognathic surgical team to correct facial deformities, best treated by this advances treatment modality involving orthodontics and Maxillo-facial surgery.
  3. Provision of orthodontics treatment with full scope and dental treatment to the patients.
  4. Advices on the occlusion of teeth treatment of facial fractures. Studies and recommends changes in the occlusion of patients undergoing periodontal treatment to remove all possible causes of the condition resulting from mechanical interference. Advices the dentist regarding difficulty occlusion problems in the construction of prosthetic appliances. He participates actively in the treatment of these cases.
  5. Designs, fabricates or directs the fabrication of intra and extra-oral orthodontic appliances, particularly advanced interceptive and functional appliances
  6. History taking, physical examinations, interpretation of common diagnostic tests and document patient condition on admission in the specified admissions sheet as per JCIA standards.
  7. Records all pertinent data in medical and dental records accurately and promptly, indicating thereon the chief complaint, diagnosis, treatment administered and recommendations for further action.Records periodically in the patient’s chart the progress and problems related to the case.
  8. Can admit patients from the hospital E.R after appropriate discussion and approval of the Consultant under whose name admission is done.
  9. Evaluates new admission and coordinates with Consultant a plan of investigation to establish a diagnosis and a management course. Executes the plan approved by the Consultant.
  10. Provision of dental treatment to the patients as advised by Head of Department.
  11. Participates in the pre-operative assessment of assigned patients and organize the operation in consultation with the senior staff.
  12. Joint consultation with the colleagues for cases requiring expertise of various dental sub-specialties.
  13. Conducts daily ward rounds to all inpatients in the department. Liaises with the concerned Consultant about care the inpatients.
  14. Observes and upholds patient’s right of security, confidentiality and privacy.
  15. Document plan of patient management and maintain appropriate records of all patients with accurate, timely legible completion of patient’s medical records. Keeping an updated follow-up in the progress notes.
  16. Should seek the advice or help of the Consultant whenever the condition of a patient merits further expertise. Works under supervision and instructions of assigned Consultant.
  17. Prepares discharge summaries, and special reports on related patients when required.
  18. Presentation of new admissions to the department through the daily morning reports.
  19. Participates actively in the on-call rota of the department for patient care and admissions. Responds to emergencies to offer medical care and advice on problems related to his/her specialty.
  20. Assist staff (Consultant) in performing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures to patients in his field of specialty.
  21. Supervises the Junior Staff in conducting their duties and responsibilities as designated by the department.
  22. Actively participates in department’s educational and training activities.
  23. Abides by department Policies and Procedures as well as hospital by-laws, Rules and Regulations.
  24. Responsible to educate patients /families as per their needs and to implement their whole role regarding patient / family education process as mention in patient & family education policy and procedure including documentation in patient medical record.
  25. They are knowledgeable about their essential role in patient and family education.
  26. Involves the patient/families in plan of care and respects patients/families regarding their goals and choices of patient care.
  27. Provides health promotion and health teaching thru methods appropriate to a patients’ developmental level, learning needs, readiness and ability to learn, language preference, culture and situations.
  28. Allots time necessary to assess, plan implement and evaluate patient education provided topatients/families with appropriate documentation.
  29. Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee’s knowledge, skills and abilities.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

  • Required

University Master Degree or Equivalent, MSC, MDS

  • Desirable

Higher qualifications in his specialty, if any.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Required

Minimum three to five (3 – 5) years in his/her specialty after obtainingMaster’s Degree.

Current valid license to practice medicine in the area of his specialty

Registration in Saudi Medical Council and/or Current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia.

  • Desirable

Eight (8) years experience in his/her specialty after obtaining Master’s Degree.

Registration in Saudi Medical Council and/or Current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia.

COMPETENCIES:

  1. Fluent in verbal and written English.
  2. Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  3. Is knowledgeable of the Medical by-laws.
  4. Knowledge of computer application.
