Job Description

The role is responsible to independently conduct all operations related to EEG, analyze its record and assist technologists in their diagnosis.

Responsibilities Key Responsibilities of the role Corresponding Key Activities performed by the role Managerial Maintaining a necessary inventory of supplies for assigned room or work station, rotation of stock in an orderly fashion and elimianting outdated items.

Participates in technical conferences and meetings

Technical Measures and accurately applies electrodes in a timely manner, according to the International 10-20 System. Ensure that electrode impedance meet laboratory standards.

Performs EEG record according to the standards of the laboratory (routine, sleep, and bedside).

Performs long term video monitoring EEG in epilepsy monitoring unit

Explains the test procedure to the patient to obtain the patient’s cooperation necessary for a complete examination.

Implements alternative methods or adjust controls of the machine to obtain optimal recording.

Distinguishes between normal and abnormal test results – describes all manifestations observed during tests

Knowledge of appropriate actions to take during patient emergency situations and ensures patient safety at all times

Quality & Safety Writes a comprehensive patient history gathering appropriate information from all sources

Writes and prepares comprehensive technical EEG and EMU summary description.

Knowledge of infection control standards relating to patient and equipment

Keeps equipment clean and in proper working order, has the ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and repair or report them promptly

Maintaining a high control over safety and health regulations and making sure that all concerned parties follow the same.

Knowledge of neuroanatomy and physiology, basic electronics and electrical safety, general knowledge of EEG instrumentation, and various medical and pharmacological conditions that influence the EEG.

Maintaining the strictest confidence in relation to patient information whether formally or informally recorded

Education Delivering and participating in training and education sessions for department staff, doctors and nurses in the safe and secure handling of drugs and equipment, prescribing (whenever applicable), administration and treatment and management i.e. teaching, induction, peer review, case studies, and clinical presentations

Participating in department programs/committees, various hospital committees, and staff meetings

Ensuring appropriate internal and external sharing of information based on governing policies and procedures

Maintaining professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars or on-line education units

Completing and maintaining all regulatory requirements including: licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames

Ensuring all members of the department receive adequate clinical supervision as required for their professional and technical development

Required QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Certificate plus certification from an Allied Health program of not less than 1 year
  • Qualification in a related allied health profession plus on the job training by an EEG supervisor or Neurophysiologist

Experience

  • NLT 6 months relevant experience in a hospital setting
  • NLT 1 year on the job training

Ability to walk moderate distances, sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.

Ability to physically bear difficult working conditions. Must observe contact precautions, working hours significantly beyond regular schedule: Overtime and on-call as needed by the department.
