Job Description

The Outpatient Department Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients attending the outpatient facility or clinic. Responsibilities include recording patient histories, performing diagnostic tests, administering medications, and developing patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals. The role involves assisting physicians during examinations and procedures, operating and monitoring medical equipment as required, and ensuring the safe and effective delivery of evidence-based care. 

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a high standard of evidence-based care to patients.
  • Adhere to Dubai Health Authority guidelines and all relevant regulatory standards.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide regular and accurate updates to patients and their relatives, ensuring communication is sensitive and easy to understand.
  • Support patients, caregivers, and families by involving them in the care process where appropriate and providing health education to promote healthy lifestyles.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times, ensuring dignity, privacy, cultural, and religious beliefs are respected.
  • Uphold high standards of care across all outpatient services.
  • Actively support the implementation of nursing and organizational strategies, upholding the ethos of the centre.
  • Ensure accurate and contemporaneous patient health records are maintained in line with hospital policy.
  • Report adverse incidents according to policy and participate in the investigation process.
  • Participate in nursing audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Uphold principles of infection control and participate in specialist link roles such as infection control, nursing audits, and quality projects, ensuring all staff are kept updated.
  • Support patients, caretakers, and relatives, involving them in care where appropriate.
  • Provide health education to promote healthy lifestyles.
  • Liaise effectively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients’ needs are met and instructions are acted upon.
  • Ensure that relevant information regarding patient condition and care is communicated clearly to the multidisciplinary team.
  • Work flexibly across the organization to maintain safe staffing levels or as part of professional development needs identified in the appraisal process.
  • Participate in emergency drills (fire, Code Blue, major incidents, communicable diseases and pandemics) and understand assigned roles during emergencies.
  • Maintain all required competencies, credentials and licenses, and work strictly within the authorized scope of practice and privileging requirements.
  • Complete documentation accurately and on time according to hospital and Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) standards, and maintain confidentiality of patient, staff and organizational information.
  • Follow safe medication practices, report medication errors or near misses, and comply with high-alert medication protocols, Look-Alike/Sound-Alike (LASA) precautions and correct medication-storage requirements.
  • Maintain ethical behavior, professionalism, integrity and respectful interactions with patients, families and colleagues.
  • Participate in audits, quality-improvement activities and performance reviews to support continuous organizational improvement.

Qualifications

  • UAE Medical Health Authority License (DHA).
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or Degree in Nursing (minimum two years course duration) And Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia.
  • Has worked in hospital or similar setting for at least 2 years.
  • Resuscitation Certificate as per the specialty& Demonstrable ongoing and active Continues Personal Development (CPD)
  • Supports quality patient care by showing empathy, maintaining patient dignity, and following proper protocols.
  • Supports and guides junior team members, offering advice and assistance if required.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality and discretion, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with the ability to manage digital documentation and communication effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, patients, and stakeholders.
