Job Description
Basic Purpose of the role
The General Practitioner (GP) in the Pediatric Long Term Ventilated Unit (LTVU) at Reem Hospital plays a critical role in providing primary medical care to pediatric patients requiring long-term ventilation support. This position involves overseeing the medical management of patients in the LTVU, as well as providing general medical care to pediatric patients in the ward. The GP collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive and holistic care for pediatric patients with complex medical needs.
Key responsibilities of the role
- Provide primary medical care to pediatric patients in the LTVU, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of medical conditions.
- Manage the medical needs of pediatric patients requiring long-term ventilation support, including tracheostomy care, ventilator management, and respiratory therapy.
- Monitor and evaluate the clinical status of patients in the LTVU, adjusting treatment plans as needed to optimize outcomes.
- Coordinate with respiratory therapists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective patient care and communication.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and case conferences to discuss patient progress, treatment plans, and discharge planning.
- Provide general medical care to pediatric patients in the ward, including routine check-ups, acute illness management, and preventive care.
- Collaborate with pediatric specialists, consultants, and allied health professionals to address the complex medical needs of pediatric patients.
- Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatment options, and preventive measures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including progress notes, orders, and discharge summaries.
- Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and protocols, as well as regulatory requirements and professional standards.

Qualifications, Certifications and Experience
- Medical degree from an accredited institution.
- Completion of residency training in pediatrics or family medicine.
- Valid license to practice medicine in the jurisdiction where employed.
- Experience working with pediatric patients, particularly those with complex medical needs.
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge of pediatric medical conditions and treatments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Compassion, empathy, and a patient-centered approach to care.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice.
