Laboratory Technologist- Dental Hygiene Clinic
 Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lab Equipment and Technical Support
  • Prepare, configure, and calibrate laboratory and clinical equipment and instruments for experimental, instructional, or diagnostic use, ensuring all devices are maintained in optimal working condition and in compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Supervise and ensure the integrity of all laboratory testing activities, confirming alignment with standard operating procedures, client specifications, and quality assurance benchmarks.
  • Apply industry best practices to analytical procedures to reduce variability, ensure data integrity, and support high confidence in test results.
  • Provide first-line technical troubleshooting for minor equipment malfunctions; coordinate with service providers or technical support teams for more complex repairs to ensure uninterrupted laboratory operations.
  • Ensure traceability and readiness of laboratory and clinical instruments, reference standards and calibration tools, maintaining complete records to support continued usability and audit compliance.
  • Research and Instructional Support
  • Collect, receive, label, and process samples or substances with precision using appropriate instrumentation and methodologies to generate accurate, reliable, and reproducible data aligned with research or diagnostic objectives.
  • Perform laboratory tests according to standardized protocols, meticulously document experimental observations, and interpret results to support scientific investigations or diagnostic evaluations.
  • Critically evaluate the scientific and technical accuracy of test results before releasing findings, ensuring they meet required standards and contribute valid data to research or clinical decision- making, as applicable.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and students in planning and executing experiments; assist in data collection, analysis, and documentation, ensuring integrity, accuracy, and compliance with institutional formats (both digital and written).
  • Provide expert technical support and equipment training to students and faculty during laboratory sessions to facilitate safe, effective execution of projects, experiments and coursework.
  • Compliance and Safety
  • Uphold and enforce laboratory safety procedures, institutional protocols, and applicable regulatory standards; remain current or relevant ethical, environmental, and scientific regulations.
  • Organize safety training sessions for new hires and monitor compliance to ensure timely completion of required refresher training for all faculty members, as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized lab environment, including proper disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Procurement and Inventory
  • Monitor usage and inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment; coordinate timely replenishment through procurement systems to avoid workflow interruptions.
  • Monitor deliveries and maintain regular contact with suppliers for routine checkups, inquiries about maintenance needs and coordinate services as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Dean’s Office to create an Annual Procurement Plan based on the needs of the College.

E. Development and Miscellaneous

  • Maintain comprehensive daily logs, equipment maintenance records, and experimental documentation; assist in the preparation of technical reports, publications, and presentation based on laboratory work.
  • Stay abreast of emerging scientific and technical advancements; integrate new knowledge into laboratory practices and assist faculty and students in applying innovations to ongoing research.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline.
  • Professional Certification in the discipline. (e.g. ASCP, ISO, or relevant local equivalent)
  • Holding an IPAC (Infection Prevention and Control) certificate is preferred.

Experience

  • A minimum of three (3) years of work experience in the field
  • Proven experience working as laboratory technologist/technician.
  • Experience in a post-secondary, adult training, or industry training environment.
  • Experience supporting laboratory or clinical operations in a healthcare or dental setting.

Language

  • Fluency in written and spoken English language required.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic language preferred.

Other Required Skills

Highly meticulous individual with strong work ethic, and a desire to achieve organizational success. Demonstrates excellent time management, attention to detail, reliable and proficient in preparing the classroom and labs.
