The Laboratory Technician at the Pan Human Biobank is responsible for the receipt, processing, storage, and quality control of biological specimens in support of research and scientific initiatives. The role ensures biospecimen integrity, traceability, and regulatory compliance through accurate documentation, adherence to SOPs, and strict biosafety practices. This position plays a vital role in enabling high‑quality research that advances human health.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, verify, label, log, track, and document biological samples within LIMS, ensuring integrity, traceability, confidentiality, and accurate records throughout the full sample lifecycle
  • Perform laboratory processing activities including centrifugation, aliquoting, and DNA/RNA extraction in strict accordance with SOPs and regulatory requirements
  • Store, retrieve, and manage biospecimens under defined conditions (e.g., −80°C freezers, liquid nitrogen tanks), maintaining cold‑chain integrity at all times
  • Maintain accurate sample inventory, location tracking, status updates, and documentation across laboratory databases and systems
  • Conduct routine quality control (QC) checks on samples and laboratory equipment, accurately record results, and participate in internal audits and proficiency testing
  • Calibrate, clean, maintain, and monitor laboratory equipment, reporting malfunctions and coordinating servicing or repairs as required
  • Ensure full compliance with biosafety, laboratory safety, PPE usage, infection control, and biological and chemical waste disposal standards
  • Support research activities by preparing and distributing biospecimens, communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders, participating in training and performance evaluations, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives aligned with M42 values

Qualifications

Fluency in written and spoken English; proficiency in Arabic is preferred but not mandatory

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, or an equivalent qualification. Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program leading to DOH registration in Hematology, Blood Transfusion, or Immunology (preferred)

Minimum of two (2) years of relevant laboratory or biobank experience

Valid DOH or DHA professional license (preferred)

Hands‑on experience operating laboratory equipment including centrifuges, controlled‑rate freezers, biosafety cabinets, and related systems

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with high attention to data accuracy and documentation
