Job Description
Job Purpose:
Be a key member of the Underwriting management team, having accountability for the success of the Underwriting team through meeting expected KPIs, SLAs and seeking continuous operational improvements.
Accountabilities:
- Manage and be responsible for the agreed hybrid-based Underwriting Management.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on underwriting related data.
- Capture, maintain and process all risk and policy data (policy, endorsements, declarations) into the Underwriting system and spreadsheet(s) within the defined Service Level Agreements as per the SLA/KPI matrix.
- Be the key point of contact for all processing and technical queries ensuring these are communicated through the appropriate channels and responded to in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate, and drive forward, operational excellence across the business through business-wide initiatives and projects.
- Lead the period close process working closely with Underwriting, IT, Claims and Finance teams to ensure all business is entered into the system, unmatched closings addressed, etc. in order to close the month.
- Provide operational excellence in delivering support for credit control, delegated authority, underwriting administration and reporting responsibilities.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders (Risk Management, Credit Control, Claims, Actuary, Portfolio Analyst, Compliance, Legal and Finance) to continuously improve the service of the team to meet the defined Service Level Agreements.
- Assist with regulatory reporting, query resolution and other tasks as required.
- Complete ad-hoc operational matters for internal and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to maintaining and developing technical knowledge and understanding.
- Proactively seeks to address and remedy errors.
- Operates meaningfully and effectively in a matrix management environment, in particular with UK based counter-parts and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Insurance, Risk Management, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Professional certifications such as ACII (Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute), CPCU, or equivalent are highly desirable.
- 3+ years of experience in underwriting operations, preferably within international facultative inward business or the London market.
- Proven experience working with underwriting systems (e.g., Websure, Xchanging, Lloyd’s systems).
- Strong knowledge of underwriting processes, policy documentation, and contractual language (slips).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data analysis, reporting, reconciliations).
- Demonstrated ability to manage KPIs, SLAs, and operational performance metrics.
- Experience in stakeholder management across functions such as Finance, Claims, Risk, Compliance, and IT.
- Strong understanding of regulatory reporting and insurance operational stand
