JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing organizational orientation, generic clinical training across CCAD. The position works with the clinical graduate trainees in the assigned area to ensure the career development and clinical skills are provided using simulations and on site rotation programs. The clinical instructor is supervising the CCAD’s GT/RTP programs candidates and ensuring proper guidance and on the job training are provided to the candidates. This position may be also responsible for conducting cross functional training across nursing and allied health teams on the Basic and Advanced Life support courses and work on the simulation center for providing case studies.

Educates cross functional teams across CCAD on clinical equipment handling, medical supplies management, and instruments; coordinates in-service training and workshops for nursing and allied health professionals across CCAD.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

GENERAL

  • Provides classroom or simulation center based training, and facilitates evidenced based learning with staff to optimize care outcomes in the clinical area, recognising the needs of rostered shift workers.
  • Promotes the use of evidence based practice.
  • Teaches and maintains instructor status in life support courses to include, but not limited to, Basic Life Support (BLS), Heartsaver First Aid (HSFA), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Provides assistance in the assessment, design, development, implementation and evaluation of learning and performance processes to the unit based educators.
  • Under the direction of Director, Nursing education collaborates with Clinical education specialists to ensure the organizational orientation courses and cross service line educational needs of the front line staff nurses are delivered
  • Ensures all new nursing staff to the area receive and complete generic orientation programmes and core clinical technical skills.
  • Liaises with the Director of Nursing education and Clinical Education Specialists across CCAD to provide overall clinical training.
  • Oversee all activities of patient care and ensure optimal level of care in clinical setting and participate in various education programs and ensure compliance to all lesson plansFacilitates care that is patient centred and planned with regard to individual cultural needs.
  • Prepare all GT assignments in discussion with the area director and ensures compliance to all academic course programs and evaluates performance of all trainees in classroom/simulation clinical training.
  • Develops and implements overarching clinical educational materials and plans for generic orientation and clinical core skill based training.
  • Supports the nursing leadership team and clinical education specialists in developing goals for the nursing teams
  • Interprets, and enforces policies, procedures and best practices
  • Ensures that all care performed is of high quality and is accurately documented within the EMR
  • Keeps abreast of best practice information for nursing profession
  • On ad-hoc basis might be required to work as unit based educator upon workforce requirements.

CLINICAL

  • Assists patients and caregivers with educational needs, problem resolution, and health management across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborates with medical providers, patient care staff, and unit management in the planning, implementation, and delivery of educational curriculum.
  • On Ad-hoc basis, provides direct specialized nursing services to an assigned group of patients, providing specialized patient care within nursing protocols and assisting in the performance of all related nursing duties.

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Collects and analyzes feedback data about training programs and makes modifications to ensure that diverse educational needs for caregivers are being met
  • Appraises own performance and develops a plan for improvement and continued professional growth
  • Provides input to Clinical Education Specialist on staff performance and educational gaps within the unit
  • Participates in peer review processes to evaluate performance of staff nurses within the unit.

In view of the evolving needs and opportunities within CCAD, this position may be required to perform other duties as assigned and reporting relationships may vary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Typical physical demands include: a high degree of manual dexterity to sufficiently perform computer functions on a keyboard, produce materials on a PC and operate basic office equipment, normal or corrected vision and hearing, exposure to communicable disease or body fluids, extensive standing and walking, working under stressful conditions and some irregular hours, handling and lifting patients, mobility sufficient to visit with departments or employees throughout CCAD and lift up to 50 lbs.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

PREFERRED

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Minimum three (3) year curriculum in Nursing from an accredited program or Associate Degree Nurses from North America with evidence of passing the National exam is required (USA: NCLEX – RN & Canada: Licensing Exam)
  • Master’s degree in Nursing with Specialization on nursing education is preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of Four (4) years post-graduate experience as a staff nurse in an acute care setting is required
  • Simulation center/nursing education experience is preferred.

Certification and Licensure

  • Valid and current national license is required
  • BLS is required from AHA or an equivalent organization, or must be obtained within 3 months of employment
  • ACLS, PALS instructor status relevant to area of specialty is required, from AHA or an equivalent organization; or must obtain within 6 months of employment
