The Occupational Therapist provides specialized rehabilitation services to patients with mental health conditions, aiming to improve their functional independence, daily living skills, and overall quality of life. This role involves assessing patients’ cognitive, emotional, and physical abilities, developing individualized therapy plans, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to support recovery, safety, and reintegration into the community.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients’ functional, cognitive, emotional, and psychosocial needs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized occupational therapy care plans to enhance daily living skills, independence, and quality of life.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions including activities of daily living (ADL) training, life skills programs, sensory integration, and cognitive rehabilitation.
  • Monitor and document patient progress, adjusting therapy plans as needed, in line with DOH and organizational standards.
  • Collaborate closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other allied health professionals to ensure integrated, patient-centred care.
  • Provide psychoeducation and training to patients, families, and caregivers to support ongoing rehabilitation and functional improvement.
  • Advocate for patients’ needs and assist with discharge planning, community reintegration, and access to supportive services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution (Master’s preferred).
  • Valid DOH license for Occupational Therapist or eligibility to obtain licensure.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of clinical experience, preferably in mental health or psychiatric settings.
  • Proficiency in Arabic is an advantage.
