Reporting to the Manager of Rehabilitation, the Occupational Therapist – Adult delivers evidence-based therapeutic interventions for adult patients across inpatient and/or outpatient settings. The role focuses on restoring functional independence, improving quality of life, and supporting safe discharge planning. The therapist must demonstrate strong clinical reasoning, a solid understanding of anatomy and physiology, and comply with M42 and DOH/DHA standards and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret referrals and conduct comprehensive functional assessments.
  • Develop, implement, and modify individualized treatment plans targeting physical, cognitive, and psychological needs.
  • Assess and treat deficits related to:
  • Fine and gross motor skills
  • Visual-perceptual and visual-motor integration
  • ADLs and functional independence
  • Cognitive rehabilitation
  • Functional participation
  • Provide hand therapy (including splinting) where applicable.
  • Recommend and train patients on assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
  • Support neurorehabilitation and seating assessments when required.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
  • Educate patients and caregivers to promote self-management and home program adherence.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, billing, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure holistic patient care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a large hospital setting (adult rehabilitation preferred).
  • DOH/DHA License or eligibility.
  • Strong clinical reasoning and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Preferred:

  • Specialist certification in Hand Therapy (Splinting).
  • Experience in Neurorehabilitation.
  • Seating and alternate access expertise.
  • Experience in JCI-accredited facilities.
