Job Description

Follows organizational direction and meets established expectations when performing required operational duties. Conducts assessment, treatment, and transport of ill or injured patients at the Intermediate Life Support (ILS) Level. Maintains the ambulance readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Follows the chain of command in reporting incidents or concerns.
  • Prioritizes workload and completes correspondence promptly.
  • Ensures a safe working environment through strict compliance with Hospital Policy and Procedures regarding safety, infection, and security.
  • Participates in unit staff meetings (60% to 80% annually).
  • Responds to codes and other emergencies.
  • Directs Ambulance attendants during their shift to ensure they fulfil their job requirements per their job description.
  • Supervises that lost charges stay to a minimum on the ambulances.
  • Ensures a safe working environment through strict compliance with Dubai Corporation of Ambulance Services (DCAS) standards.
  • Conducts training at the Life Support Training Center (LSTC) on Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) programs if they have current instructor status or assist with course preparation and clearance.
  • Conducts Hospital in-service training as per their clinical experience.
  • Supports and monitors the Resuscitation Quality Improvement Program (RQI) in American Hospital Dubai.
  • Answers phone calls politely and professionally using proper telephone etiquette.
  • Adheres to the hospital policy HPP-206 “Identification of Patient.”
  • Ensures that the workplace and surrounding area are always kept clean and organized.
  • Lifts and carries an adult safely via the stretcher with assistance.
  • Assembles, restocks, cleans, and maintains the ambulance, patient care equipment, and facility.
  • Provides patient assessment, treatment, and transport at the Intermediate Life Support Level.
  • Assists the Administrative Supervisor with the arrangements of patient transfers locally and internationally by ground transport.
  • Ensures patient records are fully completed and up to American Hospital Dubai standards.
  • Conducts monthly crash cart audits throughout the American Hospital Dubai.
  • Regularly review AEDs functionality and first aid equipment availability throughout American Hospital Dubai.
  • Ensures the Dubai Corporation of Ambulance Services (DCAS) office is fully stocked and cleaned at all times.
  • Directs and supports Dubai Corporation of Ambulance Services (DCAS) and other ambulance service providers in the transportation of patients.
  • Assists Emergency patients arriving outside the Emergency Department entrance.
  • Assists Emergency Department team as needed.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree/ Diploma/ Certification from an accredited College of Paramedics / EMS College in country of origin and/or country of professional practice
  • Registered as an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate in the country of citizenship or professional practice
  • Licensed with Dubai Corporation of Ambulance Services (DCAS) as a Paramedic
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification
  • Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)/ International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) Certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent post-graduate Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate (EMT-I) experience
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, ensuring the effective functioning of the duty
  • Ability to plan and carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Evidence of continuing education
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer literacy and basic use of the Microsoft Office suite
  • American Heart Association Instructor Training Highly Recommended
  • Previous Middle Eastern experience preferred
