Job Summary (Role Purpose):

The incumbent will contribute to the organization by providing Psychiatry treatments which includes the prevention, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of the mind and mental illness. Provide the patients relief of mental suffering associated with symptoms of disorder and improvement of mental well-being.

Key Accountabilities & Duties:

  • Manage day to day Psychiatry patients carrying out a comprehensive history, examination and investigation in the assigned area.
  • Conducts psychiatric evaluation to examine and diagnose patient’s condition
  • Diagnose psychiatric disorders and advise on problems related to general psychiatry (mental health and prevention of mental disorders), as well as different specialty groups ie. perinatal, substance misuse, geriatrics.
  • Discuss with patient/carer the need and appropriateness of specialist investigation and gain consent
  • Establish a diagnosis using advanced clinical reasoning, experience and other psychiatric evaluation methods.
  • Communicate in complex situations while being culturally and emotionally sensitive.
  • Update and maintain an accurate patient’s health record
  • Accept in-house referral from other clinics in the health center and where appropriate from other sources outside of the organization.
  • Respond appropriately to urgent psychiatry service needs at the health center as per protocol and in collaboration with other clinical practitioners, wherever necessary.
  • Undertake comprehensive combination of measures, such as drugs, psychological counselling, improving home environments and social networks etc based on the patient’s situation and diagnosis results
  • Adhere to the principles of safe prescribing, utilize PHCC’s electronic prescribing system and tools, discuss with patient the multiple options available and keep accurate record of medication prescribed.
  • Continuously manage patient under their care and agree regular follow-ups where appropriate.
  • Refer patients appropriately to other providers if their need exceeds the range or specialism of services provided in PHCC.
  • Provide additional services or enhanced services to the patient within the post holder’s clinical competence
  • Provide appropriate health promotion and preventative healthcare advice to patients and utilize advance counselling skills to influence behavior.
  • Interpret and explain complex facts regarding patient’s condition in simple easy to understand language while being aware of level of understanding, disabilities and learning difficulties
  • Maintain high standards of professional integrity and respect for others in all dealings with service users, colleagues, other professionals and members of the public
  • Support health center management in promoting good internal and external communications and where required acts as the lead spokesperson.
  • Practice as per PHCC’s policies and procedures regarding quality, safety and infection control
  • Undertake any appropriate duties or responsibilities (as directed) regarding the development of QI, Safety, and IC requirements, and similar programs.
  • Keep up to date with advances in primary care Psychiatry.
  • Attend appropriate professional training courses/conferences/meetings in consultation with health center manager and the training department
  • Participate in annual appraisal and when implemented fulfil the criteria for revalidation
  • Guide all medical and clinical staff and provide adequate and appropriate supervision and mentoring, wherever necessary
  • Participate in teaching and training of doctors and other healthcare professionals
  • Involve in the development of training programs and CPDs for the profession
  • Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by thinking what might go wrong in all your undertakings and take necessary measures to prevent them from happening.
  • Identify and report potential or actual patient safety concerns, errors and/or near misses in timely manner.
  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Demonstrate as sense of teamwork and effective communication.
  • Partner with line manager to understand risks in your area of work, develop a plan on how to mitigate those risks, and develop shared accountability for implementing and evaluating the plan.
  • Understand patient safety and ensure it is part of the care delivery.
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care process.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality relating to patient, health center and PHCC

Education Requirements: Primary medical degree from a recognized medical school. | Board certification or equivalent in Psychiatry. The qualifications must be in line with the list of approved qualifications from DHP.

Certification, license or training Requirements: Valid CPR course | DHP Specialist License | Valid medical license and/or registration from country of employment

Experience & Knowledge: The candidate must have the required experience in line with DHP & PHCC requirements, based on the country of obtaining the respective qualification, as per the approved qualification list.
