Job Description

Job Summary:

The Radiologic Technologist at My clinic is under direct supervision of the supervisor technologists, where he/she takes images of various portions of the body by operating all or some of the following: Digital Radiography, BMD, Mammogram, Ultrasound, MRI and CT Scan equipment where he/ she is expected to practice safe procedures and adheres to radiation safety measures following department protocols, to assist physicians and healthcare providers in diagnosing and treating patients’ medical conditions.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Assesses requisition for the appropriateness of the procedure.

2. Appropriate patient identification: Asks patient to state name and verify name with file record.

3. Make sure all needed consents and questionnaires are signed and appropriately stored.

4. Explains procedures, assists, and transfers patient to table, positions patient’s body for accurate images and assists patient at end of procedure.

5. Follows prescribed techniques in administering general and specific studies, adjusts equipment and parameters and arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient.

6. For x-ray producing studies, adjust lead shields to protect unaffected parts of the patient’s body.

7. Observes patient and equipment during procedures and reports unusual occurrences and records patient’s condition.

8. Prepares and administers contrast agents necessary for radiologic examinations during a CT scan or MRI as requested or ordered. Assesses and observes patient for adverse reactions during procedures.

9. Monitoring patients for signs of distress, adverse reactions, or medical emergencies during imaging procedures, and provide appropriate care and support as needed.

10. Transports patients within department, to and from waiting area as required.

11. Troubleshoots and reports equipment problems to supervisor/Radiologist.

12. Cleans and disinfects patient rooms.

13. Follow infection control and safety guidelines.

14. Assignment to different modality room is dependent on “qualifications, years of experience, credentials, competency, training, gender-related, business need”.

15. Performing other professional duties as assigned.

Documentation and Reporting

1. Document any incidental findings that might impact patient safety or patient care and provide that information to the attending Radiologist.

2. Provide oversight of the system management for the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).

3. Document areas of risks with his seniors or head of department.

Education / Professional Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Radiology

2. License and Recognized by SCFHS
