This role is responsible to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. A sleep technologist is able to perform the duties defined for a sleep technician and score sleep data and prepare raw data for physician while ensuring compliance with M42 policies and procedures as well as all regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies, including Polysomnography (PSG), PAP titration, split‑night studies, MSLT, MWT, parasomnia studies, oxygen titration, and portable monitoring as per established protocols.
- Review patient history, verify medical orders, and prepare patients for sleep studies, including education on procedures, equipment, and disease management.
- Apply electrodes and sensors using the 10-20 system, perform physiological and equipment calibrations, and ensure high‑quality, artifact‑free signal acquisition in line with AASM guidelines.
- Monitor patients throughout the study, document clinical observations, and respond appropriately to patient needs and safety concerns.
- Score sleep stages and clinical events (e.g., respiratory events, limb movements, cardiac events, arousals) and generate accurate sleep study reports using AASM standards.
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and ensure proper cleaning and disinfection of sleep lab equipment; coordinate with biomedical engineering for servicing and repairs.
- Perform additional patient testing as required, including ABGs, non‑invasive PAP assessments, and CO₂ monitoring (EtCO₂ or TcCO₂).
- Ensure accurate documentation, billing charge capture, and compliance with organizational, regulatory, and infection control standards.
- Contribute to quality improvement, research, and service development initiatives within the sleep medicine program.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy (or) a Certificate in Respiratory Therapy for not less than 2 years (or) Academic qualification Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- Either ONE of the following certificates
- Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT)
- American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM)
- Sleep Disorders Specialty Examination by National Board for
Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Minimum two (2) years of experience post qualification in a related field
- Should have the medical license (DOH/DHA/MOH)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification / ACLS / PALS
