Description
Job Description
The Sonographer – Breast Care Unit is responsible for delivering high-quality breast ultrasound imaging services to support the early detection, diagnosis, and follow-up of breast conditions. The role involves working closely with radiologists, breast surgeons, and the multidisciplinary breast care team to ensure accurate imaging, patient-centred care, and adherence to regulatory, safety, and quality standards in line with DHA requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical:
- Perform high-quality breast ultrasound examinations for screening, diagnostic, and follow-up purposes in accordance with clinical indications.
- Conduct breast imaging for symptomatic patients, high-risk patients, and post-operative or post-treatment follow-up cases.
- Accurately identify, assess, and document breast lesions, lymph nodes, and related findings, escalating urgent or suspicious findings promptly.
- Ensure patient safety, comfort, privacy, and dignity throughout all imaging procedures.
- Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures clearly and addressing concerns sensitively, particularly in breast care settings.
- Ensure imaging protocols are followed and adapted appropriately based on patient condition and clinical indication.
- Work closely with radiologists, breast surgeons, oncologists, nurses, and the multidisciplinary breast care team to support coordinated patient care.
Clinical Governance & Personal Development
- Adhere to hospital policies, imaging protocols, and professional standards of practice.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and peer review activities related to breast imaging services.
- Maintain professional competence through continuous professional development, training, and attendance at relevant courses or study days.
- Contribute to maintaining high standards of clinical practice in line with evidence-based guidelines.
Quality
- Deliver imaging services that meet quality, safety, and patient-centred care standards.
- Identify and report equipment faults, incidents, near misses, or risks in line with hospital incident reporting procedures.
Education & Qualification, Experience, Training & Knowledge
- UAE Medical Health Authority License (DHA).
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound or Sonography (minimum three (3) years course duration) or
- Associate Degree in Sonography (minimum two (2) years course duration) And Registration/certification or accreditation as radiographer/Sonographer or
- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma from an accredited institution in Radiography /Radiology Technology or Medical Imaging (minimum three (3) years course duration) And Post-primary Certificate or Diploma degree (minimum twelve (12) months course duration) in Diagnostic Ultrasound
- Certification or documented training in breast ultrasound imaging is prefered
Experience
- Has worked in hospital or similar setting for at least 2 to 4 years.
- Experience assisting with ultrasound-guided breast procedures such as biopsies, fine needle aspiration, and cyst drainage is desirable.
Training, Knowledge & Skills
- Awareness and understanding of King’s College Hospital (KCH) policies and initiatives.
- Resuscitation Certificate as per the specialty& Demonstrable ongoing and active Continues Personal Development (CPD)
- Supports quality patient care by showing empathy, maintaining patient dignity, and following proper protocols.
