Reporting to the Rehabilitation Team Leader, the Speech and Language Pathologist – Adult is responsible for assessing and treating adult patients with speech, language, communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. The role manages inpatient and/or outpatient caseloads and delivers evidence-based interventions in compliance with DOH and organizational standards. Formal dysphagia competency is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct screening, comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
  • Assess and manage adult dysphagia and swallowing impairments with formal competency.
  • Develop individualized, evidence-based therapy plans aligned with international clinical guidelines.
  • Deliver therapy sessions in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.
  • Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on treatment plans and home programs.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation and progress tracking in compliance with policies.
  • Participate in case conferences, professional development, and clinical training initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 2 years’ post-qualification experience (1 year for Master’s holders) in adult rehabilitation settings.
  • Active membership and certification from a recognized professional body (e.g., RCSLT, ASHA, SPA).
  • Eligible for DOH/DHA licensure.
  • Formal dysphagia and swallowing certification and demonstrated competency.
  • Evidence of independent clinical practice under supervision in a recognized setting.

Preferred:

  • Experience in neurorehabilitation or long-term care settings.
  • Experience managing tracheostomy patients.
  • FEES or VFSS exposure/training.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary rehabilitation programs.
