Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Technician-Longevity Clinic – Allied Health
A Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring patients receive safe and effective treatment using hyperbaric oxygen therapy machines
These accountabilities require attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a focus on patient safety and well-being.
1. Patient Care: Prepare, educate, and orient patients for HBOT treatments, ensuring their safety and comfort during sessions.
2. Chamber Operation: Operate and monitor hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers, controlling pressure and ensuring safe treatment delivery.
3. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate patient records, including treatment documentation and photo uploading.
4. Supply Management: Manage and track supplies, such as wipes, towels, and pillowcases, and perform inventory checks.
5. Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning and disinfecting the chamber, and troubleshooting issues.
6. Customer Service: Answer client questions, provide general information, and assist with scheduling appointments.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Patient Safety: Ensuring patients are properly prepared, monitored, and cared for during HBOT treatments.
2. Chamber Operation: Operating and maintaining hyperbaric chambers, following strict safety protocols.
3. Treatment Administration: Administering HBOT treatments according to physician orders and established guidelines.
4. Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records of patient treatments, including vital signs and any adverse reactions.
5. Equipment Maintenance: Performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting issues with hyperbaric equipment.
6. Patient Education: Educating patients and families about HBOT treatments, benefits, and potential risks.
7. Collaboration: Working with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
ROLE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Patient Preparation: Preparing patients for HBOT treatments, ensuring they understand the procedure and follow safety guidelines.
2. Chamber Operation: Operating and monitoring hyperbaric chambers during treatments, adjusting settings as needed.
3. Safety Monitoring: Continuously monitoring patients and the chamber environment for any signs of distress or equipment malfunction.
4. Treatment Documentation: Accurately documenting patient treatments, including treatment parameters, patient response, and any adverse reactions.
5. Equipment Maintenance: Performing routine checks and maintenance on hyperbaric equipment to ensure safe and effective operation.
6. Patient Assessment: Assessing patients before, during, and after treatments to identify any potential issues or concerns.
7. Communication: Communicating effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive care and address any questions or concerns.
These responsibilities require attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a focus on patient safety and well-being.
Educational Qualification:
Required:
1. Education: High school diploma or GED; associate’s degree may be preferred for some positions.
2. Training: Completion of an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Safety course, either pre- or post-hire.
Desired:
1. • Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred.
2. • Training: Successful completion of an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Safety Course, either prior to hire or within the required post-hire training period.
Specialist Certifications:
Required / Preferred:
• Current Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) certification, or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe after hire.
Desired:
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Ongoing continuing education related to hyperbaric medicine, wound care, or patient safety.
Required:
• Experience assisting with or performing hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments, including patient preparation, chamber operation, monitoring during treatment, and post-treatment documentation.
• Knowledge of hyperbaric chamber safety procedures, emergency protocols, and infection control standards.
Desired:
• Prior experience in hyperbaric medicine, wound care, or hospital-based clinical environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
